South Gwinnett growth comes with being 'focused and locked in"
On Friday, the South Gwinnett Comets football team got their final chance to line up across from a team other than themselves and as they hosted North Gwinnett in their final tune up action ahead of their season opener against Shiloh on August 16.
And while the action on the field was live with scores and all, what was more important for South Gwinnett head coach, Bryan Lamar, was the opportunity for he and his staff to see what areas they believe the Comets need to adjust and areas they believe they are doing well in.
“I think we have a good team and we have some good players,” Lamar said of what he believes are some of the “positives” for the Comets, in addition to areas he has seen the program grow since taking over in 2021.
“Our overall talent level has gotten better every year that I have been here, but we still have a long way to go on details,” Lamar added, noting that with a new offensive system this season and graduating several key players from last year’s team, growth from his players will be important.
“Tonight was great opportunity for us to grow as a team and get some stuff on tape. We played against a really good football team and they challenged us in some ways that we needed to be challenged in so that we can correct the things that we need to correct,” Lamar said.
As the head coach, now entering year three over the Comets, continued to give a brief assessment of his team’s performance on Friday, he would go on to say that he believes if his players “are focused and locked in, we’re great,” however they also have to understand that they will also have to clean up the type of mishaps they had on Friday. “We just have to work on our details,” Lamar said.
