Lakeside, Johns Creek winners of Fowlkes Memorial Invitational

The Decatur Bulldogs cross country team hosted the annual Fowlkes Memorial Invitational as teams from throughout the metro Atlanta area converged on Legacy Park to participate in the annual 5K race, which the Lakeside Vikings would place first in the boys division as junior, Khoi Nguyen finished first in a time of 16:47.64.
Meanwhile, the Johns Creek Gladiators would take home the top spot in the girls 5K, as senior, Tasneem Ahmed took the tape in a time of 20:48.24, with teammates Isabella Skeens (21:07.78) and Ava Reames (21:09.14) finished second and third respectively.
"I thought it would be worse because I know this course has some hills," Ahmed said following her Fowlkes Memorial win on Saturday. "But I don't think it was that bad, honestly," Ahmed said of the course, which she describe as having some areas of wetness and muddiness.
Once the girls 5K got underway and approached the 2500 meter mark, Ahmed, Skeens and Reames led the pack, with Reames initially out in front. "I think it was a boost of confidence, not just for me, but for our whole team," Ahmed said of the importance of she and her teammates being able to jump out in front of the pack and stay in front throughout the race.
"Starting off with a race like this makes everything for meets like state and nationals and so I think the confidence build up in the beginning is really important," Ahmed said.
