Lithia Springs locked in on 'discipline over detail 24/7' as they get set to kick off their season

Since coming under the direction of head coach, Corey Jarvis, the Lithia Springs Lions football team has had the most post season success in the program’s history as he led them to their first ever playoff berth in 2019, with last season being the first year they would miss the Georgia High School Association state championship tournament since Jarvis took over.

And while, the Lions had a down season in 2023, Jarvis, now heading into his 18th year as a head coach, still has the same excitement about getting the season underway as he did when he first got into coaching. “I was telling a couple of coaches today, I didn’t even sleep last night really,” Jarvis said on Wednesday ahead of the Lions’ practice as he shared how he still enjoys getting a season underway.

“I’m thinking about games, I’m thinking about the season, I’m ready to get it started,” Jarvis continued, noting that in their scrimmage last week against Douglas County, the Lions showed that the efforts they put in over the summer to prepare for the season where on display. “Our kids played pretty well. You know, we have some things that we need to work on to show up but just excitement always,” Jarvis added.

Now looking to have a bounce back season and get back to the playoffs, Jarvis says that he and his coaching staffing have a simple message for their players. “24-7, it’s been discipline over detail,” Jarvis said as he explained that in the 2023 season, he believes the Lions did not display the necessary discipline that could have led to a more desired outcome to the season.

“We did things that were uncharacteristic of our team and our program. This year, we’ve preached discipline over detail and we preach 24-7 being student athletes,” Jarvis said. And now as the Lions get set for their season opener against Lithonia on Friday, Jarvis says “depth” will one of the keys to a successful season for Lithia Springs.

“That’s what we’ve been trying to do, especially the last two weeks. We’ve really worked on our two’s and getting our JV kids ready because that’s our next level and we’re only good as they are. And the next thing would be just staying healthy,” Jarvis said, however emphasizing the importance of his team remaining disciplined throughout the season.

“We’ve done some good things, but we can do some things a little better and I hope that as the season progresses, we get better each week,” Jarvis added.
