Westlake Wins Battle of Georgia Top Ranked Girls Basketball Teams As They Defeat Lovejoy 58-47

On Tuesday, the Westlake Lady Lions basketball team hosted the Lovejoy Wildcats in a battle between two of Georgia's top ranked girls basketball programs. In the first quarter, Westlake would find themselves trailing 11-7 but then would go on an 8-0 run to close out the opening period with a 15-11 lead. In the second quarter, the Wildcats close the gap and get within three points of the Lions, but Westlake would go on to outscore the Wildcats 16-9 to take a 31-20 lead into the locker room at the half. The Westlake defense would make its presence felt in the third quarter as they would hold Lovejoy to just six points and go into the fourth quarter with a 47-26 lead. Lovejoy would battle and actually outscore the Lions in the fourth quarter 21-11, but that would not be enough to overcome being down by 21 at the start of the final period as Westlake would go on to pick up the 58-47 win. Westlake guard Ta'Niya Latson and center Misia McKinney would each finish with 18 points while Raven Johnson would end the night with 14 points, six assist and four steals in the win.
