North Atlanta advances to region championship with win over Hillgrove
During the regular season, the North Atlanta Warriors dropped their region matchup with the Hillgrove Hawks by a final of 2-1, but on Wednesday the Warriors were the victors as they defeated Hillgrove 3-2 in the semifinals of the Georgia High School Association Class 7A Region 3 tournament.
The Warriors opened the match with a 25-19 win in Set 1, followed by a 25-16 Set 2 win. However, Hillgrove responded taking Set 3 25-14 and Set 4 25-21, forcing a decisive Set 5, which would go in favor of the Warriors.
"We played a lot of games this year that prepared us for this moment," North Atlanta head coach Terrence Amos, said following Wednesday's semifinal win. "We talked about just believing in yourself, believing in each other and I think it actually showed up tonight," Amos said as he praised his players for their fight "to the end" of the match.
North Atlanta will now face the Harrison Hoyas on Thursday for a chance to win the region championship. "Harrison is a good team, so we have to play mistake free, can't beat ourselves, just give our best effort," Amos said. During the regular season, Harrison won their only meeting 2-0.
