After achieving another program milestone, Whitefield Academy looks to make more history

When the 2026 Georgia High School Association softball season came to an end for the Whitefield Academy softball, while it resulted in losses to Wesleyan and North Cobb Christian in the second round of the state championship tournament, the 2025 was an historical one for the Wolfpack as it marked the first time in program history, they advanced to Columbus, Georgia.
Fast-forward to the 2026 season, and Whitefield Academy reached another career milestone as they came out on top of GHSA Class 2A, Region 5 to claim their first region championship in program history. "We had a lot of things to change and I think once the girls realized I'm all in, then they started buying into if we practice hard, work hard, then good things will happen," Whitefield Academy head coach, Mike Fuller said, following their win over The Walker School in the opening round of the playoffs.
Wolfpack came under the direction of Fuller ahead of the 2023 season and credits the level of talent, dedication of his players playing softball outside of the school season and chemistry to the program's success over the past two seasons. "So I think that's been a big part of starting to learn how to win and win not just during the season, but win at the next level so I'm super proud of them for that," Fuller said.
The learning experience
While the Wolfpack did not leave Columbus last season with their desired results, Fuller believes the overall experience created a hungry for more mindset within his players, as they look to make the trip for a second consecutive season. "They definitely want to go back," the Wolfpack head coach said, adding "they weren't happy just to be there," and played well in their matchups against North Cobb Christian and eventual champions, Wesleyan.
"Once they got the taste of that, they were ready to go back. It's a big challenge, but we'll give it our best shot," Fuller said as they turn their attention to the defensing state champions, Wesleyan. "Wesleyan has a very strong hitting lineup. We've got to hit with them," Fuller said of preparing for their second round opponent, who they will face on Monday, October 19 in a best of three series.
