Southeast Bulloch celebrates their third consecutive state championship win after defeating North Oconee 14-0

As flag football continues grow within the Georgia High School Association member schools, the Southeast Bulloch Yellow Jackets have been one of the state's most dominate programs having not loss since their inaugural season winning back to back state titles and on Monday, looked to continue their historic run by becoming the first flag football team to win three consecutive state titles.

Matched up against a North Oconee team for the GHSA Division 1 state title, the Yellow Jackets found themselves in a very physical contest as the Titans made their presence felt, in particularly on the defensive side of the ball. However, the stingy defense of Southeast Bulloch would play just as physical and neither offense could find the end zone through the first two quarters of play.

"They bodied us up in that first half and at halftime we had to have a little meeting and just said, 'hey, we're the best team here. We're 61-0 for a reason," Southeast Bulloch head coach, Marci Cochran, said after the game, as she spoke on the Yellow Jackets halftime adjustments. And in the third quarter, the Southeast Bulloch offense appeared to start welcoming the physicality that the North Oconee defense play as they capped the opening drive of the third quarter with a Korine Talkington touchdown pass to Ava King.

After the extra point gave the Yellow Jackets a 7-0 lead, defensively, they began to dish out what they were receciving in the first half and that would lead to Titans' quarterback, Catherine attempting to complete a pass into double coverage, however that batted around ball would end up in the hands of King for an interception and Southeast Bulloch would capitalize on the ensuing possesion as Talkington would connect with Alex Odom for a spectacular touchdown catch.

Taking a 14-0 lead, the Yellow Jackets would come up big on the next possession for the Titans, keeping them out of the end zone and picking up the win for their third consecutine state championship win, becoming the first program to accomplish the feat. "That's pretty special. These girls have won two in a row," Cochran said admitting that with Lithia Springs looking to win back to back titles on Tuesday, they wanted to make another historic mark. "We wanted to be the first to have the three-peat and we were, thank goodness," Cochran added.
