PSN Summer Break - Milton Eagles Boys Basketball

Milton Eagles participate in GBCA Live Events

After a 2020-2021 season that saw them win the Georgia High School Association Class 7A state title, their first since 2012, the Milton Eagles have been taking full advantage of the opportunity to put in work during the summer period, especially since COVID-19 ceased all summer activities for all high school in 2020. On the final weekend of the Georgia Basketball Coaches Association live event teams have been enjoying competing in front of college coaches and recruiters and as Milton head coach, Allen Whitehart put it, being able to get the time in with his guys this summer at the live events “is like Christmas day”.

“Having all these college coaches, 144 teams each weekend, being able to get back with your guys and get back in the gym and come out and play and compete, it’s great. Like I said, it’s Christmas morning all over again,” Whitehart said. The GBCA live events also featured a thirty five second shot clock, something that will be a part of GHSA basketball within a couple of seasons, and Whitehart says he likes the flow of the game that comes with the usage of the shot clock. “It keeps the flow of the game going. They’re doing at every other level and I feel like with us implementing it fully in the next two years, I think it’s a big jump for basketball in Georgia,” Whitehart said.

And as for getting ready for the upcoming season and their title defense, Whitehart says “conditioning” is going to be important for them. “We want to be in elite shape. Work on our bodies and put some muscle on and a lot of skill work,” Whitehart said, adding, “really, it’s about individually getting our guys connected and getting them better as they go.”
