With the Georgia High School Association basketball regular season set to end next week for the Pebblebrook Falcons, they would pick up their sixth straight win as they defeated South Cobb 77-31 as senior Donald "DJ" McMillian led all players with 19 points.
And while the win helped the Falcons improve to 17-6 overall and 11-2 in region play, Friday's win allows Pebblebrook to head into their regular season finale against the McEachern Indians, who's only region lose came at the hands of the Falcons last month, setting up a showdown for the number one seed for their region tournament.
"We're building for something special, so use this game for building and to get better," Pebblebrook head coach, George Washington said of the Falcons win in front of their home crowd for the last time of the regular season. And as they turn their attention to the Indians, Washington explained there are several points of focus for the Falcons to secure the number one seed on Tuesday.
"We have to rebound, we have to defend, we have to talk, just do stuff that is fundamentally sound and done the right way," Washington said of what Pebblebrook will have to do in order to complete the regular series sweep of McEachern and keep momentum heading into the GHSA 6A state championship tournament.
"This whole season has been about playing the right way, playing together, playing as a brotherhood and doing what Pebblebrook has always done. If we continue to do what Pebblebrook has always done, we're going to be successful and we'll make a deep run as long as we do that. But if we deviate off from that, playing selfish or not playing team basketball, then you'll fins yourself in a situation where you're going home early," Washington said.
