As the 2025-2026 Georgia High School Association track and field season nears its end, the Landmark Christian School War Eagles, whose boys programs captured the 2024-2025 GHSA A-3A Private State Championship, made their case to have a strong showing in Athens on May 13 when their season will come to an end, as they wrapped up the A-3A Private Sectional A with 35 qualifiers for the state title meet.
"It's fun to watch," Landmark Christian School Director of Track and Field, Milton Campbell, who is a former Olympian, said of the War Eagles team and how they have performed throughout the season. "We have a fairly young team. We have some vets, but we have a strong freshman class and a good sophomore class," Campbell continued, noting their girls program has just one senior.
"It's really just exciting just to see them start to round into shape and get ready for state. That's our philosophy, everything that happens before here really doesn't matter," Campbell said of the War Eagles approach to the season in hopes of qualifying for the state championship. "It's really kind of what happens around area, sectionals and then the big dance at state," Campbell said.
"We're really excited about the opportunity we have to hopefully bring home two titles. That's the goal," Campbell said, adding the War Eagles will focus on recovery over the next few days as they prepare for the championship. "I told them, we're not doing any hard workouts right now, we're just trying to get them to have fresh legs," Campbell said as he explained they'll be "fine tuning different things," such as decisions on members of their relay teams who will have "the best chemistry" to improve their efforts to capture state title gold.
And of those Landmark will likely turn to on their girls team, is freshman Melanie Doggett, who has been having a phenomenal first season of high school track and field. "It's special. I think for me, what I love about her is her humility," Campbell said of Doggett, praising her for not allowing the early successes of her career stop her from being "humble" and "hungry,".
"As long as she's been on the team, she's also that servant leader and that's what's so impressive about her," Campbell said of Doggett, who currently holds the Georgia 100 meter dash (11.01) and 200 meter dash (22.80) top times for 2026. "The goal is to keep her healthy, stay out of her way and see what God has for her, but it's really exciting to see just what see brings to the team and seeing the other young ladies look up to her and celebrate her," Campbell said.
