Clayton County Latest Atlanta Metro Area System To Suspend Fall Sports Activities

The Clayton County Public Schools system has become the latest to suspend fall sports activities for two weeks due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In a statement released by the school system, superintendent, Morcease J. Beasley stated, "The situation surrounding high school athletics is complex and complicated, however the safety of our players, their families and our employees is our primary concern. He continued with, "While there are many complicated aspects and varied opinions related to this subject to be considered, we will lean towards prioritizing safety and security through this two week freeze of athletic activity. Our intention is to do everything possible to avoid cancelling any part of the fall sports season." Schools affected by the freeze include Lovejoy, Morrow, Jonesboro, North Clayton, Rivedale, Forest Park, Drew, and Elite Scholars Academy. Clayton County is the second school system in the last couple of days that has made changes related to fall sports. On Friday, Rockdale County announced that they would be moving their fall sports season to the second semester.
