Spring Sports, Winter Championships Cancelled In North Carolina

On Friday, the North Carolina High School Athletic Association and the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association both cancelled the rest of their spring sports seasons. The announcement of the cancellations came Friday afternoon following North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper's closing of schools in the state for the rest of the 2019-2020 academic school year. NCHSAA Commissioner Que Tucker said in a statement that the decision to cancel the spring sports season and the winter championships, was "difficult for the board of directors" and went on to add that despite the compassion they had for the student athletes affected by the decision, "especially graduating seniors", the board believed that their decision reflected their commitment to keeping the student athletes and all those connected to the NCHSAA sports community safe.
