Lions, Wildcats Split As Westlake Girls, Wheeler Boys Pick Up Wins To Complete Season Series Sweeps

On Wednesday, the Westlake Lions girls and boys basketball teams hosted the Wheeler Wildcats. On the girls side, the Lady Lions looked to complete the season sweep of the Wildcats and would have no problem doing so.

After closing out the first quarter with a 18-10 lead, the Lions would turn up the defensive pressure and go on to pick up the 77-34 win. For Westlake, they would see the return of junior Raven Johnson and Taniya Latson, who both had been out due to injury. Both players appeared to be fully over their injuries and said they are ready to help the Lions get ready for the region tournament.

In the boys game, the Wildcats would be the team looking to complete the season series sweep and would open up the game on a 5-0 run but the Lions would respond with a 13-4 run of their own to take a 13-9 lead and close out the first quarter up 19-15. The contest would remain close throughout the second period but Westlake's Dillon Hunter would ignite the home crowd with a monstrous dunk over a Wheeler defender that would put Westlake up 30-26.

However, from there, Wheeler would outscore Westlake 18-10 to take a 44-40 lead at the half. The Wildcats would never relinquish their lead as they would go on to pick up the 81-71 win and complete the season series sweep. Watch highlights from the games below now!
