Buford Wolves Defeat Warner Robins In OT 17-14 For GHSA 5A State Title, First Since 2014

On Friday, the Buford Wolves and the Warner Robins Demons went head to head for the Georgia High School Association Class 5A state title in a game that would need an overtime period to decide the winner. The Wolves would strike first taking a 7-0 lead following a Gabe Ervin rushing touchdown in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Demons would answer back with a rushing touchdown of their own courtesy of Ahmed Walker, making it a 7-7 game at the half. In the third quarter, Warner Robins would take their first lead thanks to a quarterback keeper by Jalen Addie as the Demons would take a 14-7 lead. In the fourth quarter, the Demons would have a chance to take a 17-14 lead but kicker Cary Payne would fail to connect on a field goal.

However, the Warner Robins defense would hold strong throughout all the third quarter and throughout most of the fourth quarter until the Wolves would put together a drive with a few minutes to go that would end with a Ashton Daniels to Jamarius Issac touchdown to tie the game and send it into overtime. The Demons would have first possession in the OT period but Addie would throw an interception and Buford would capitalize setting up Hayden Olsen for a game winning field goal which he would make good on as Buford would pick up the 17-14 OT win for the 2019 GHSA 5A state title.
