Mays Holds Off Westlake 34-33 In Spring Game Action


On Thursday, the Westlake Lions hosted the Mays Raiders in a spring football game match up. the cross town rivals took to the field in front of a unusually large crowd for a spring game which included several college scouts on hand as well as class of 2019 soon to be college standouts like Jadon Haselwood.

The Raiders would get off to a good start taking a 12-0 first quarter lead, but the Lions would respond with three straight touchdowns, including one rushing by Jamari Sirmons, while RJ Johnson threw for two to Corey Dixon and Chase Lloyd as Westlake took a 21-12 lead. After falling 27-20, the Raiders would respond by scoring the next two touchdowns taking a 34-27 lead and go on to pick up the 34-33 win.

Although the win does not count for anything, both head coaches know the value of being able to see their guys in action before they go to work in the summer to prepare for the upcoming season.
