Lady Astros Set For 2018-2019 Season As Douglass Defeats Miller Grove 74-30 In Preseason Scrimmage

As the 2018-2019 Georgia High School Association basketball season sets to begin, the defending GHSA 2A Region 6 champs, the Douglass Lady Astros played host to the Miller Grove Lady Wolverines.

The Astros, whose 2017-2018 season ended with a 57-39 loss to Josey in the GHSA 2A Elite 8 of the state playoffs, would open up the preseason contest on a 10-0 run lead by senior and Jacksonville commit Nekiyah Thompson who finished with 12 points on the night.

Douglass would look good offensively and defensively throughout the night as pressure applied by the Astros led to several Miller Grove turnovers which junior Kayla Sesberry benefitted from thoughout the game as she would finish with 16 points.

The Astros also got some offensive production from sophomore Ashuntee Weems who ended the night with 20 points. Although Douglass would go on to win be a final of 74-30, head coach Alana Allen said that there are still a few things the team needs to work on as their goal is to not only return to the GHSA 2A Elite 8, but take their season even further.
