After Trailing By 14, Lions Roar Back In 4th Quarter As Westlake Defeats Pebblebrook 21-14


On Friday night, the Westlake Lions played host to rival the Pebblebrook Falcons in a region match up. Both teams would come into the night with 3-3 overall records and 1-0 in region play. After a scoreless first quarter, the Falcons would get on the board first during the second quarter and take a 7-0 lead after a Tyler Thomas rushing touchdown.

With :12 remaining in the first half, Westlake would make their way into the red zone and look to tie the game before time expired in the half but would come up short as Gino Appleberry would be knocked out of bounds at the 1 yard line as time ran out in the period. In the third quarter, Pebblebrook would add to there lead after quarterback Marquise Cooper would score on a keeper up the middle of the Lion's defense and the Falcons would take a 14-0 lead.

In the fourth quarter, the Lions would come roaring back and make it a 14-7 game in favor of the Falcons after a rushing touchdown by Darrell Nichols put Westlake on the board. And then later as time was winding down, the Lions would score again after Caleb Dixon would connect with Jalen Simmons on a touchdown pass and the game would be tied 14-14 with 2:44 to go in regulation. Pebblebrook would use use up the clock and drive down the field to get within field goal range with :01 remaining in the fourth quarter. Westlake's field goal block unit would come up big though, blocking the Falcons' attempt to win the game and send the contest into overtime.

The Lions would win the toss and get first crack at scoring and that's exactly what they would do when Appleberry would rush up the middle, bouncing off a few Pebblebrook defenders and into the end zone and Westlake would take a 21-14. On their attempt to tie things up, the Falcons would come up short on all four tries and Westlake would get the overtime victory. Watch highlights below!
