While the start of the 2025-2026 season has been a bit of a roller coaster for the Walton Raiders boys lacrosse team, on Tuesday, they opened area play with a win over the Denmark Danes as they defeated them 20-5, powered by an eight goal performance by senior Evan Faber.
"Last year we played them and it was probably our worst game in a handful of years," Walton head coach, Griffin Spotz said after the Raiders earned their fourth win of the season, which also ended a two-game skid by the Raiders.
"We know that Denmark last year was a special team for them and this year is not the same team as their team was last year, but for us we don't care. It's about the name we wear and the name we're trying to hunt on any given night," Spotz said of the Raiders mindset heading into Tuesday's area showdown.
"Tonight, we wanted to make up for how we played last year in this game and it didn't matter who our opponent was from a talent level perspective. It mattered that, that school put up a good showing against us and this year, we want to leave no doubt that there's a separation between us and them," Spotz said.
The Raiders made the separation known early as they took an 8-0 lead in the first quarter and closed out the period leading Denmark 9-2. By halftime, Walton managed a 10-point lead as they led 13-3 and extend their lead to 14-points heading into the fourth quarter up 18-4, eventually picking up the 20-5 win.
"We did one thing really badly today that cost us five goals and we'll talk about it very specifically tomorrow in film, but we did about 30 things right that were very dominating. I think this is a very special group of kids we have. It has the right mixture," Spotz said of his players as he praised them for their overall performance in Tuesday's victory.
Walton will be back in action on Friday when they host Blessed Trinity.
