Roswell scores 15 unanswered points in fourth quarter, defeats Blessed Trinity

On Friday, the Blessed Trinity Titans and Roswell Hornets met up in not just a neighborhood battle, but a matchup with region implications involved as both teams entered the night at 4-1 overall and 1-0 in region play. And as expected, the two teams went toe to toe from the opening kickoff with the Hornets striking first on their opening drive as running back Nykahi Davenport would take a handoff fro quarterback KJ Smith and rush 70 yards to the end zone for the score, helping the Hornets take the early 7-0 lead.

Wasting no time to respond, on the ensuing possession, the Titans would get into the end zone with a huge running play of their own as running back Ahmontae Pitts would shiftily make his way through defenders for a 50 yard touchdown run as Blessed Trinity would tie the game 7-7. With momentum still on their side, as the Titans’ defense would slow the Hornets’ rush attack down, Blessed Trinity would tack on two field goals and would lead 13-7 late in the second quarter, however, Roswell would eventually get into the end zone for the second time of the night as Smith would throw a strike to Dylan Williams at the back corner of the end zone, and the Hornets would take a 14-13 lead into the locker room at the half.

In the second half, the two teams would exchange scores a couple more times as the Titans would regain the lead in the third quarter as Brooks Goodman would throw a touchdown pass to Zyon McKenzie, and while Blessed Trinity would fail on the extra point attempt, they would take a 19-14 lead. Unable to find an answer in the third quarter, the Hornets would reestablish their offense with a mix of rushing and pass plays and eventually, Smith would connect with Synkwan Smith for a touchdown and with a successful two point conversion, Roswell would go back on top, 22-19.

However, the ensuing Titans’ possession would prove to be the most important defensive stance of the night for Hornets as they would hold Blessed Trinity to a three and out and on their following drive, would reach the end zone once again as Synkwan Smith would rush for his second touchdown of the night and helping the Hornets secure a 29-19 win. “I’m so proud of the way they fought toward the end there,” Roswell head coach, Chris Prewett said of the Hornets come from behind win after they trailed heading into the fourth quarter. “We needed to be pushed and we needed to be tested and Blessed Trinity did an outstanding job,” Prewett added as he credited the Titans for the test they put his team through.

“If we’re going to play our 15 games like we want to, this is a part of the story, it’s just one game and we have to grow and we have to learn from it,” continued as he spoke following the Roswell win.
