Roswell edges Lambert with walk off goal in 285 Lacrosse season opener

The Roswell Hornets got their title defense season underway on Saturday as they took on the Lambert Longhorns at the 285 Lacrosse Invitational. The Hornets would jump out to an early first quarter lead 5-1 first quarter lead and would maintain control throughout majority of the first half, going up by as many as six points when they lead 7-1 early in the second quarter and by halftime, led the Longhorns 8-3.

In the third quarter, Lambert would find some offensive momentum, however the Hornets themselves had yet to slow down and still led by four goals, up 11-7 heading into the fourth quarter. And in the final period of regulation, the Longhorns would open up with five unanswered goals, including back to back scores from Cole Greenfield, to take their first lead of the game as they would go up 12-11 with just about two minutes to go in regulation.

Having watched their four point fourth quarter lead wiped away and down a goal, Roswell quickly responded by tying the game at 12-12 with 1:17 remaining, thanks to a Luke Hicks goal, assisted by Ezra Moore. Later with possession, the Hornets would have an opportunity to regain the lead, however the Longhorns defense would hold strong giving possession back to their offense and a Lucas Dopfer goal would put Lambert back on top 13-12 with under one minute to go in the quarter.

However, the Hornets would once again respond almost immediately as Kaden Parla would connect with Hicks for to once again even the score at 13-13 with 30 seconds to go and the clock would eventually strike all zeros, sending the match into overtime. In the sudden death OT period, the Hornets’ defense would come up with a crucial defensive stop that would lead to a Roswell break and the break would end in a Linkin Miller walk off goal to give the Hornets the 14-13 win.
