For former Union Grove standout, Riley Bethea, watching Georgia Tech volleyball as a child would not only inspire the Yellow Jacket signee, but eventually lead her to "The Flats" for her collegiate career. "I used to go to a lot of Georgia Tech games before I actually started getting into it," Bethea said. "I was like 'wow, I really want to do this,'" Bethea said of the impression she had after seeing the Yellow Jackets attack the nets.
Fast forward to present day and Bethea has completed her high school career with various honors including AVCA All-Region honors and ranked in the Top 150 in the nation for the class of 2026. "That made me see all my hard work paid off and to just keep working towards what I want," Bethea said of receiving her various accolades such as Region Player of the Year.
"It was a moment I was really surprised by," Bethea said, admitting that she did not anticipate being awarded the honor. "I knew I had the stats for it but I know stats don't always mean everything so when I got the award, I was like 'wow, maybe my hard work did do something," Bethea, who has been enrolled at Georgia Tech since January, said.
And as for her decision in choosing Georgia Tech to continue her academic and collegiate career, familiarity along with "the coaches" and "environment" were the right combination for Bethea. "I've always been around Georgia Tech. My mom is a Georgia Tech alumni so I always went to football games, I always went to volleyball games, so just knowing the environment of it, I liked it," Bethea said of the Yellow Jackets' campus.
