The Thomson Lady Bulldogs girls basketball team has gotten the 2025-2026 Georgia High School Association season off to a solid start after earning their 10th win of the season when they defeated the McDonough Warhawks 53-22 at the annual 'Warhawk NYE Invitational', improving to 10-1 on the season.
"Our togetherness," Thomson head coach, Sierra Williams said after their win over McDonough, praising her players for how well they have been able to become a cohesive group despite the loss of players who played pivotal roles on last season's team, which reached the GHSA 2A quarterfinals.
"We lost a good bit of our scoring from last year so this team has tried to find other ways to win and they've been doing it togethers," Williams said of what has impressed her watching the Bulldogs, who extended their current win streak to nine games in a row and have relied on returning players to take bigger roles this season.
"I think they understood that they had to step up, not just as players, but as leaders. We needed some more leadership in the locker room and we had to fill the shoes of the ones who left, and I think they've done a great job of just stepping up as leaders and making sure we're ready to go in each game," Williams said.
The Bulldogs will kick off 2026 and the second half of the season on Saturday when they take on Warren County.
