As the Georgia High School Association state championship tournament has gotten underway, the McIntosh Chiefs defeated the Lithia Springs Lions in the opening round of the Class 5A bracket as freshman Drian Hoti led the way with three goals. "We've been working on things really hard this week and the best thing is when you see it come to fruition in the match," McIntosh head coach, Bunky Colvin said of the Chiefs win in which his players successfully executed their game plan.

"The other thing is, everybody played great tonight. Everybody was at the top of their game and it's probably the best game we've played all year," Colvin said of the Chiefs' win which advanced them to the second round of the state championship tournament, where they will face the winner of two-time defending champions, River Ridge, and Houston County. And while McIntosh will head into that matchup off of three straight wins, Colvin believes the two losses prior to their three game win streak helped prepare them for the post season.

"I would say the two losses were more important just because it made us re-evaluate ourselves. Made us change some things and it also showed us weaknesses that we had to improve on, so we worked really, really hard to do that and then we began to see that show in those two games," Colvin said of the Chiefs closing the regular season with wins over Forest Park and Starr's Mill. "We finished with two good wins against two good teams so I felt like those loses taught us what we needed," Colvin said.

And while McIntosh awaits to find out who they will face later this week in the round of 16, Colvin believes the Chiefs will need to "work on getting our possessions a little cleaner and a little quicker and I think we have to work on finishing our chances, they have a great goal keeper. Probably the best goal keeper in the state so we have to finish accurately and well," Colvin said of the potential of facing River Ridge.
