Kell Defeats Hillgrove In Preseason Action, Both Teams Winners In Return To Action Since March 2020

Kell's Ansley Knor wins ball down battle with Hillgrove players

On Wednesday, the Hillgrove Hawks girls lacrosse team hosted the Kell Longhorns in a preseason match up, which would be the first time either teams has faced an opponent since March of 2020, when spring sports were shutdown due to COVID-19. The Longhorns would come out and control the first half scoring eight goals lead the Hawks 8-0 at the half as Hillgrove struggled to flip the field. The Hawks would strike first in the second half as Emma Perritte would strike to make it a 8-1 game in favor of the Longhorns, however, Erin King would answer the Perritte goal with one of her six on the night to put Kell up 9-1. The Hawks would continue to struggle flipping the field in the second half and eventually, the Longhorns would pick up the 16-3 win as Lindsey King would add four goals and Delaney Gilchrist would finish with three goals in the Kell win. Depsite the final on the scoreboard, both teams were victorious in the sense that they were finally able to return to the field in competitive form after having their seasons shutdown last year. We spoke with both coaches after the match about what emotions were like seeing their girls back out on the field. Watch highlights and interviews below now!
