On Saturday, the annual 'Hard In the Paint' Give Back Classic continued featuring defending champions, the Holy Innocents Golden Bears, who took on and defeated the Cedar Grove Saints behind a 23 point performance by Devin Hutcherson, and the Tri Cities Bulldogs, who took on and defeated the Eagles Landing Christian Academy Chargers 66-48 as Tre Keith led the Bulldogs with 28 points.
"They're problem solving," Holy Innocents head coach, Mario Mays, said of the Golden Bears picking up the win to improve to 5-0 on the season. "We talk a lot about that. Trying to put them in situations and everything will never just be exactly like you planned for it and so when that happens, we just encourage our guys to problem solve by communicating , talking and just staying connected," Mays said. of the Golden Bears start to the season.
Meanwhile for Tri Cities, Saturday's win marked the defending champs first victory of the season and for head coach, Omari Forts, sitting at 1-3 to start the season "is absolutely the start that we wanted," Forts said as he explained having his players deal with face difficult challenges early on in the season helps prepare them for the stretch of the season which can lead to the finish they hope to achieve.
"You can't measure yourself with a goal of being the best without playing the best. So early in the season we've identified a lot of things we have to get better at and I tell the guys all the time, we want to be good in February and March and although we're 1-3 right now, we've lost to some of the best teams in Georgia, so there's no shame in that," Forts said of the early set backs the Bulldogs have faced, which he believes helps his players with understanding how achieve success.
