Fellowship Christian celebrates winning region championship after defeating Whitefield Academy

In the final week of the Georgia High School Association football regular season, the Whitefield Academy Wolfpack hosted the Fellowship Christian Paladins with the Division I, Region 5 championship on the line as the two teams entered the night unbeaten in region play, with Whitefield having won eight games in a row after dropping their season opener, while Fellowship Christian had the momentum of a six game win streak behind them.

And with the game underway, momentum started off on the side of the Paladins as their defense forced Whitefield to punt on the opening drive of the game after their first three plays of the drive failed to result in a first down conversion. On the ensuing Paladins possession, Fellowship would need eight plays to drive down field and cap their opening drive with a CJ Givers rushing touchdown, taking a 7-0 lead after the extra point.

After the second Wolfpack possession would lead to a turnover on downs, the Paladins once again found the end zone, this time on the legs of senior quarterback, Jonathan Grandby, and would take a 14-0 lead. In the second quarter, the Whitefield defense would have a couple of stances, keeping the Paladins from adding to their lead and on their fourth possession of the game would final score after a 1st and goal from the Fellowship one-yard line would lead to a Landon Ryan rushing touchdown.

However, with a 14-7 lead, Fellowship would respond on the ensuing possession with Givers rushing for his second touchdown of the night, helping the Paladins take a 21-7 lead. In the third quarter, while the Wolfpack offense failed to reach the end zone, Fellowship would add three points courtesy of a field goal, taking a 24-7 lead and in the fourth quarter, a Patrick Trummie interception returned for a touchdown would give the Paladins a 31-7 lead, which would be the final score.

"It was not a pretty game but when it's 31-7 for a championship, can't be happier. Real happy for these guys right here," Fellowship Christian head coach, John Thompson said following the Paladins win over " a good team," in Whitefield, who he praised for being well coached.
