Campbell Gets Impressive 58-42 Region Win Over McEachern
On Friday, the Campbell Spartans looked to bounce back from their one point region loss to Pebblebrook on Tuesday as they hosted McEachern, who came into the match up unbeaten in region play. Tuesday’s loss for the Spartans was their first region loss, so a win tonight would give them the edge over McEachern in the standings. With region positioning on the line, as expected, the two teams kept things close throughout the first quarter, as the period came to a close with Campbell leading 14-13.
Things slowed down a bit in the second quarter as both teams struggled to make baskets, but late in the period, the Spartans would get a little momentum and increase their lead to six, as they led 25-19 at the half. Offensive production picked up for both teams in the third quarter, however, it would be Campbell outscoring the Indians 19-14 as they led 44-33 at the end of the period. And in the fourth quarter, the Spartans’ defense would begin to cause problems for McEachern as they held them to nine points in the quarter in route to a 58-42 win.
Following the game, Campbell head coach, Randy McClure, said the win over McEachern was “important” due to the fact they the Spartans were coming off their first region loss earlier in the week. “We didn’t play well” McClure said of his players’ performance in Tuesday’s loss to Pebblebrook adding that if girls can continue to play the way they need to play, they can continue to see results like they got on Friday in their win over McEachern. “Intensity and consistency” McClure said are what he needs to see from his players down the stretch.
