The Therrell Panthers flag football team continues to roll, improving to 15-0 overall and 6-0 in region play after wins over the Lovett Lions and Mount Vernon Mustangs. And with the win over Mount Vernon, Therrell handed the Mustangs their first region loss of the season, therefore taking sole possession of first place in the GHSA Division II, Area 4 standings.
"I really think it's really just the buy in," Therrell head coach, Matthew Hazel said of the success the Panthers have been having this season. "We started this summer, we had a good summer, a lot of the girls came this summer consistently and it just carried over into the season," Hazel said of his players and their commitment to the team. "They jelled as a team and as a unit," Hazel said.
Moving forward, the Panthers will close out the regular season on next week when they take on the Douglass Astros and Midtown Knights and then will turn their attention to the region tournament. "I think sometimes when you're winning, you still don't understand the mistakes you're making while you win, so just trying to clean up these mistakes," Hazel said of what he wants to see his players work on as they prepare for what they hope will be a "long run" in the postseason.
