USA Today To Host Atlanta High School Sports Awards Thursday
On Thursday, June 18, USA Today Sports will host the Atlanta High School Sports Awards virtually, celebrating Atlanta's top performing high school student athletes, coaches and teams from this past season. The show will be hosted by sports broadcasters Sage Steele, Jesse Palmer, Dr. Jerry Punch and Courtney Cronin. The award show will honor best performing student athletes per sports as well as Girls and Boys Athlete of the Year, Coach of the Year, Team of the Year and several other categories.
Notable nominations include Football offense as both the Marietta Blue Devils and the McEachern Indians each have two players nominated. Arik Gilbert and Harrison Bailey for Marietta and Javon Baker and Dacari Collins for McEachern. Gilbert and Bailey helped lead the Blue Devils to the 2019 Georgia High School Association Class 7A State Championship. In the softball category, the Grayson Rams landed three players on the list, Kailyn Jones, Kylie Macy, and Aaliyah White are all nominated. They helped the Rams reach the 2019 GHSA 7A state championship game.
Grayson, along with Norcross, two teams that met in the 2019-2020 GHSA 7A Elite 8, also both had two players nominated for boys basketball. Deivon Smith and Caleb Murphy for the Rams and J.T. Thor and Quincy Ademokoya for the Blue Devils. And in girls basketball Collins Hill and Lovejoy also each had two players nominated. Sacha Washington and Asjah Innis from Collins Hill were nominated and Genesis Bryant and Anaya Boyd of Lovejoy were nominated.
