The Lions' were 8-1 and ranked No. 6 in the nation this past season at the time it was cut short due to COVID-19. Sutton gave thanks to his players and coaching staff, crediting them for helping him earn the award. "Without good players, coaches don't win awards", said Sutton adding, "I have one heck of a coaching staff that we've pieced together". and went on to say that as soon as he received the email in regards to earning the honor, he sent a text message to his assistants congratulating them. "It was just as much about them as it was for me". said Sutton.
