Chamblee Bulldogs Defeat Grady For GHSA 5A State Title, First In Program History

Due weather conditions on Saturday, some of the Georgia High School Association tennis championships had been delayed to this week including the boy's 5A title match between the Chamblee Bulldogs and the Grady Knights. The match up would be a historic one for either program as neither had one a state title previously. In fact, Grady would be making their first appearance in a state championship game.

As the match got underway, the Bulldogs would claim the first win of the day in Singles 1 as Andrew Pretkiewicz defeated Grady's Josh Wolf 6-1, 6-1. Minutes later, Chamblee would take a 2-0 lead in the match after Hap Howell picked up a win in Singles 3 defeating the Knights' Jack Stegleman 6-2, 6-2 and shortly afterward the duo of Carter Difonzo and Bryce Starks would knock off Grady's Scott Whitley and Teddy Suazo in Doubles 1 6-1, 6-1. The win would help the Bulldogs claim their first state title in the program's history as they joined the Chamblee girl's tennis team, who won their third straight title, as 2019 GHSA 5A State Champions!
