Late Second Half Run By Alpharetta Pushes Raiders To 11-10 Win Over Hillgrove, Advances To GHSA 6A-7


On Thursday, the Hillgrove Hawks girls lacrosse team hosted the Alpharetta Raiders in the opening round of the Georgia High School Association Class 6A-7A state playoffs. Out the gate, this contest close from start to finish.

But in the second half, the Hawks would take an 8-6 lead and look to gain momentum, however, it would be the Raiders gaining momentum as they would go on a 4-0 run to take a 10-8 lead. Later after Hillgrove cut the Raider lead to one as they trailed 10-9, Alpharetta's Mackenzie Mazer would put the Raiders back up two following a free position shot.

With time winding down, the Raiders would begin to play keep away but Hillgrove would manage to force a turnover and the Hawks' Lauren Render would drive the length of the field and score making it an 11-10 game with six seconds to go in the game. Out of the draw, the Hawks would win possession but a long desperation pass would be intercepted by the Raiders as the clock ran out and Alpharetta picking up the 11-10 win.
