St. Pius Lady Golden Lions Open Season With 5-3 Win Over Woodward

As the 2018 Georgia High School Association softball season has gotten underway, the St. Pius Golden Lions looked to start their season off a different fashion than last season in which the Golden Lions started off 0-5 before picking up their first win. However, the 2018 campaign is already off to a much desired start as the young team notched a season opener win over their rival, the Woodward Academy War Eagles.

In the top of the second inning, Lola Frankauski would help get the Golden Lions get on the scoreboard first as they took a 1-0 thanks to a bases loaded sacrifice fly ball. Later in the top of the third inning, with runners at first and third, the Lions would take a 2-0 when pitcher Josie Lord would drive one deep to right-center field for another sacrifice fly. The Golden Lions would tack on two more runs in the top of the fourth to take a 4-0 and despite the War Eagles picking up runs of their own in the fourth and seventh, St. Pius would hold on to get the 5-3 win.
