Pace Keeps Pace With Westminster Following 12-9 Win Over Lovett, Ryan Hofstetter 7 Goals
Going into Friday night, the race in the Georgia High School Association 1A-5A Area 2 was very close between the Lovett Lions, Pace Academy Knights, Kell and Westminster Wildcats. The Knights held the number two spot with no region losses behind Westminster, while the Lovett Lions held the number three spot with only one region match up.
So a loss by either team would definitely change things around, but more standings shift if the Lions could knock off Pace. The Knights would score first in this one taking a 1-0 lead in the first quarter, but the Lions would respond with three consecutive goals to 3-1 lead early in the second quarter. The Lions would go to take a 6-3 lead over Pace at the half.
In the second half, the Knights would heat up early on, scoring four unanswered goals, all by Ryan Hofstetter as Pace took a 7-6 lead. The two teams would end up tied up once more early in the fourth quarter, but Hofstetter would continue to stay hot scoring two more goals in the second half and helping lead Pace to a 12-9 win.
The win helps the Knights remain in second place behind Westminster, who they play next Friday. a win next week by Pace puts them in the driver seat of the GHSA 1A-5A Area 2 standings. Meanwhile, the loss for Lovett drops them to the fourth place spot in the region standings behind Kell. Watch highlights from the games below no
