Raiders Dominate Game 2 Win Helps Redan Complete Sweep of Fannin County to Advance to Second Round


As the opening round of the Georgia High School Association State Playoffs continued, the Redan Raiders faced the Fannin County Rebels in their best of three series in Class 3A action on Friday. The Raiders would open the series with a 3-0 win in Game 1. As Game 2 got underway in the top of the first inning, the Raiders would seemingly pick up where they left off as when #2 stepped to the plate with one out and a runner at third base, would ground out but bring in the runner from third giving the Raiders a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the first, with bases load and #10 Logan Holt at the plate, Fannin County would even up the game at 1-1 after Holt would be walked by Redan’s #22 Darius Pope. The Rebels would load the bases once more with two outs but Pope would strike out #20 Drew Foresman to close out the inning. In the top of the second inning, the Raiders would tack on another run after a no out RBI single by #5 with runners at first and third.

After holding the Rebels scoreless in the second and third innings, the Raiders would add to their lead in the top of the fourth inning, scoring three runs including an RBI double by #6 Chance Bryant as Redan led 6-1 going into the bottom of the fourth. After Fannin County made it a 6-2 game in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Raiders would pick up eight more runs in the top of the fifth inning as a combination of walks, players hit by pitches, and RBI singles led to a 14-2 lead for Redan.

In the bottom of the fifth the Raiders would make a pitching change, bringing in #2 for Pope, who retired eight batters while on the mound. #2 would strike out three of the four batters he faced to end the game allowing the Raiders to complete the sweep as they would win Game 2 16-2. Redan advance to face Crisp County, who swept Jenkins, in the second round of the GHSA 3A State Playoffs.
