Woodward On To Sweet 16 With 6-0 Win Over West Laurens
On Tuesday Woodward Academy Lady War Eagles hosted West Laurens Lady Raiders in the opening round of the Georgia High School Association Class 4A State Playoffs. As play got underway, defense would dominate most of the first half as neither offense could score a goal throughout most of the period.
The Lady War Eagles would have a couple of good looks but would come up short until the 5:06 mark of the half when Woodward’s #16 Lily Chahine score off a fast break to put Woodward up 1-0. The War Eagles would get another shot to add to their lead just before the half ended but would settle for their 1-0 lead at the half. In the second half to War Eagles would only allow about four minutes to tick off the clock before they would take a 2-0 lead after a hands penalty would lead to a penalty kick by #2 Maddy Cronin.
As the half continued, Woodward would strike again when #4 Elizabeth Denny would shoot and score giving the War Eagles a 3-0 lead with 34:49 to go in the game. Woodward would reel off three more goals in the half including back to back goals by #17 Kayla Stadeker as Woodward would go on to win by a final score of 6-0 to advance to the next round where they will face Jefferson, who defeated Southeast Whitfield.
