Northside-Columbus Advances To GHSA Flag Football Elite 8 With 18-6 Win Over Pace
In the second round of the inaugural Georgia High School Association flag football state playoffs, the Pace Academy Knights hosted the Northside-Columbus Patriots for an opportunity to advance to the elite eight round of the playoffs. In the first half, the Patriots would take a 6-0 lead following a Maddy Motz touchdown pass to Ally Gasser. After the Nothside score, both defense would hold and the Patriots would remain on top 6-0 at the half. Pace would respond on the opening drive of the second and score on a Sydney Silverstein touchdown pass to Katelyn Sauza to tie the game 6-6. However, the Patriots would respond with 12 unanswered points, a rushing touchdown by Claire Cahalan and another rushing score by Motz, to go on and pick up the 18-6 win to move on the the third round of the playoffs. Following the win, Northside Coach, Chad Dean expressed how happy he was for the team and the effort they have been giving to put them one step closer to winning the inaugural GHSA 1A-5A state title. "These girls are all multi-sport athletes," Dean said, adding "for them to come out here and put this much heart and guts into it, it says a lot about their character."
