North Springs Win Streak At 11 With 11-1 Win Over New Manchester

The North Springs Spartans baseball team has been on a roll of late, winners of 10 in a row heading into their Monday night region match up with the New Manchester Jaguars, who they defeated on Friday, 12-0. So a win for the Spartans on Monday would extend their win streak 11 straight and improve them to 13-3 overall and 6-0 in the region standings. Despite taking an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning after an RBI single Tyler Jackson, the Spartans really did not heat up at the plate until the bottom of the fourth inning.

However, on the mound, the North Springs pitching combo of Zaparaniuk, Jason Murphy, Caden Rogers and Jake Streeter, would keep the Jaguars scoreless through five innings, combing for seven strikeouts, four of them credited to Murphy. “Our pitching’s just been lights out, throwing strikes and filling it up and it’s been really impressive,” North Springs head coach, Matt Gershon said following Monday’s win. In fact, prior to Monday’s game, the Spartans had not allowed a run in their last four contest and have only given up 14 runs total in their last 11 games.

Now about halfway through their region schedule, the Spartans, who won the region last season, have now completed the season series sweeps of New Manchester, Maynard Jackson and Villa Rica and sit at the top of the region standings at 6-0. Up next for North Springs will be two region games this week against Chapel Hill. With a chance to finish the week at 8-0 in the standings, Gershon says the Spartans need to “keep playing hard and doing what we preach on a daily basis and not worry about who’s in the other dugout and getting after it as hard as we can”.
