Jannaco Searcy brings Maynard Jackson wrestling first state title in program history

On Saturday, the Georgia High School Association wrestling state championships concluded with the girls finals and boys Classes, 2A, 4A and 6A finals at the brand new Clayton County Convocation Center, which was once the location of a Sears department store.
As the finals got under way, the Maynard Jackson Jaguars would have one of the history making moments of the day during the Class 4A 106 pound state title matchup as the Jaguars' Jannaco Searcy battled North Oconee's Jack Dupree, with Searcy winning the match on points 8-4, earning the Jaguars their first state championship winner in program history.
"First one in history for my school, it feels good. The hard work paid off," Searcy said of the Maynard Jackson historic moment which began on Friday with a opening round win over Ben Thai of St. Pius. "Wednesdays and Thursday I was kind of nervous, but once I got on the mat Friday, all the nervousness went away and today I was ready to go. I was ready to fight all day today," Searcy said.
In the 4A 132 pound matchup, Ola Mustang's Gabriel Easey would set a personal mark of winning his second straight state championship after defeating Grant Albright of the Allatoona Buccaneers. "It always feels good to be number one, be the best but I've been here before so I perform when the lights are the brightest," Easey said following his win over Albright.
"My mindset coming into today was just putting points on the board and not looking at the win or lose situation and just having fun and enjoying the sport," Easey said. "I wanted to make sure I made a statement, make sure everyone knows I'm back," Easey said after he picked up the win by fall after being up 16-2.
