The Douglas County Tigers football began their second week of summer workout this week and on Tuesday, it was business as usual for head coach, Johnny White and his Tigers as they start to prepare for the 2025 season. "The work has been great. The kids have been working real hard and I'm very impressed with our freshman group," White said as he praised he players for their efforts, highlighting how well the Tigers' underclassmen have acclimated.
And while White and his staff have been impressed with how well their younger players have adjusted to the regiment of the the Tigers' workouts, they also understand the role of the upperclassmen will be pivotal to their success as it has been in the past. "Great teams are player led. That's the bottom line. We tell them that everyday so if they want to be considered a great team, then they have to be player led. If they want to be a legendary team, then they'll all lead themselves," White said.
Now with their focus on 2025 and their quest to secure a state title, White says he and his staff want their players to stand proud of what they have been able to accomplish over the past two season, which they have a 24-4 record and advanced to the semifinals in both years. "Even though the last two years didn't end the way we wanted them to, you still can't take away from what we've done. 24-4 is not something you can look down on so what do we have to do to get to game 15?" White said of the Tigers' focus for the season.
And as White and his staff continue rely on the talent of their players to help achieve their team goals, the Tigers' head coach does not hesitate to credit his faith for how they have been able to build Douglas County into a nationally known program with highly touted recruits. "It's just one word for me and it's blessed. We give God the glory in everything we do and I'm just the outlet of all the things he's blessed me with so it's just a blessing to me," White said.
Douglas County will open the 2025 season on August 16 when they take on North Gwinnett in the annual Corky Kell Classic at Mercedes Benz Stadium.
