Iowa Revises Spring Sports Schedule, Tentative Start Date Moved To May

On Monday, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds announced that schools throughout the state would remain closed until at least April 30. Following that announcement, the Iowa High School Association and the Iowa Girls High School Union both announced that instead of cancelling their spring sports seasons, they revised the calendars to reflect a new start date of May first for all practices to begin or resume, with track meets beginning May fourth. All championships would be held in June. "We are committed to bringing a sense of familiarity to our young people whose school year has been disrupted by the adjusted spring season," IHSAA executive director Tom Keating said in a statement released by IHSAA. Adding that the hope is for students to return to school on the May first target date and still have a chance to compete in the sporting events that "mean so much to them."
