Laney Baker 13 K's As Woodland Sweeps Chamblee In Opening Round Of GHSA 5A State Playoffs
As the opening round of the Georgia High School Association softball playoffs got underway, the Chamblee Bulldogs hosted the Woodland Wildcats in a best of three series. In game one of the series, both teams would get solid performances from their respective pitchers as both Laney Baker (Woodland) and Lily McCord (Chamblee) would pitch scoreless innings through the first three innings.
However, in the top of the fourth inning, the Wildcats would get on the board first as McCord would give up an RBI single to Kendyl Hardin allowing Woodland to take a 1-0 lead. Later in the fourth, a pass ball by McCord with a runner on third base for the Wildcats would allow that runner to score, giving Woodland a 2-0 lead. As the game continued, Baker would continue her almost perfect performance from the mound as she would go on to strike out 13 Bulldogs batters leading the Wildcats to a 2-1 game one win. Woodland would go on to take game two 5-1, sweeping the opening round series. Watch game one highlights below now!
