Woodward War Eagles Sweep Opening Round Series Over Hardaway To Advance To GHSA 4A Second Round
On Wednesday, the opening round of the Georgia High School Association baseball state playoffs got underway and in Class 4A action, the Woodward Academy War Eagles hosted the Hardaway Hawks out of Columbus, Georgia in a best of three series. In game one, the War Eagles would get on the board first in the bottom of the second inning.
With Khari Gee at the plate and runners at the corners, the Hawks would go for the out on the steal attempt to second allowing the runner from third to score giving Woodward a 1-0 lead. The War Eagles would add another run in the bottom of the fourth courtesy of an RBI single by South Carolina commit, pitcher Will Sanders.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, another RBI single by Mason Carnes would put the War Eagles up 3-0 as they would go on to win game one by a final of 4-1. Woodward would also take game two 8-2 to advance to the second round of the GHSA 4A playoffs. Watch highlights from game one below now!
