Whitewater, Johnson Knock Off Starr's Mill Boys and Girls, Both Headed to GHSA 5A Soccer Title G
The Starr's Mill Panthers girls and boys soccer teams played host in a double header on their home field in the semi finals of the Georgia High School Association Class 5A state playoffs. The Lady Panthers would hit the field first and find themselves trailing 2-0 at the half to their rival, the Whitewater Wildcats.
In the second half, the Panther's offense continued to struggle against a stingy Wildcats defense and would not be able to score, meanwhile Whitewater's April Dumas would give the Lady Wildcats a 3-0 lead early in the second half and the Wildcats would go on to win by that score. The win puts Whitewater in the GHSA 5A championship game where they will face the McIntosh Chiefs, who have won the title the past two years.
In boys action, the Panthers of Starr's Mill faced the Johnson Knights and the would take an early 1-0 lead and carry it into the half. In the second half, several shots on goal would come up short for the Panthers while a goal by Michael Arcia and a header by Marco Vazquez off of a free kick would lift the Knights to a 3-0 lead.
Starr's Mill would eventually get on the board with 5:30 to go in the game which would be enough time for them to take a few more shots on goal but to no avail and it would be Arcia and the Knights tacking on another goal to take a 4-1 lead and win. Johnson moves on to the GHSA 5A boys soccer state title game where they will also face McIntosh, who is the defending GHSA 5A state champion. Watch highlights from both game below now!
