Indians Stifle Goldens Lions Rally As Stephens County Takes Holds Off St Pius With 9-4 Win


On Friday, the St. Pius Golden Lions hosted the visiting Stephens County Indians in the two team’s final conference game of the season. The Indians would get things going early scoring five runs in the first inning and take a 5-1 lead into the top of the second inning.

With #6 Preston Jenkins on the mound, the Golden Lions would settle the Indians down, only allowing one run, an RBI single by Stephens County’s #5 Dylan Huff in the third, over the next four innings. In the bottom of the fourth, the Golden Lions would begin a would be come back as they scored three runs in the inning, including a two outs, two run triple by #35 Wesley Diamantis to make it a 6-4 game in favor of the Indians.

But in the top of the seventh inning, Stephens County would take an 8-4 lead when #1 Austin Page would step to the plate with runners on base at second and third and connect on a single out to right center field bringing in both runners. Later in the inning, with two outs and one man on at third, #8 Dawson Sorrells would single and the base runner would score to make it a 9-4 game. And that would be the final score as the Indians pick up the win.
