Dakato Bennett 17 K's, Brewer Sweeps Curry In Double Header With 8-1 and 13-5 Wins
On Saturday, Prep Sports Nation was in Jasper, Alabama to catch the double header between the Curry Yellow Jackets and the Brewer Patriots. In game one, the Patriots would score three runs in the top of the first inning while the Yellow Jackets would bring in one run of their own as Brewer led Curry 3-1 after one. In the top of the third inning, Brewer would tack on another run when #31 Sr. Baxely Collins would single bringing in a run.
After the Patriots side would eventually be retired, #5 Sr. Dakota Bennett (17 K) would return to the mound and continue to hold the Yellow Jackets scoreless as Brewer took a 4-0 lead into the top of the fourth inning. In the fourth inning with two out and runners at first and second base, Bennett would come up with the RBI single as the runner would score from second as the Patriots would go up 5-0. Later in the inning with bases loaded, Curry’s #7 would walk Brewer’s #22 So. Dalton Gilmore, bringing in a run and the Patriots would take a 6-0 lead over the Yellow Jackets.
As the inning continued, Curry would make a pitching change but Brewer would tag on one more run as they led 7-0 going into the bottom of the fourth inning. Once again on the mound, Brewer’s Bennett continued to have the advantage over Curry’s batters and the Patriots defense assisted when necessary as they only allowed one run which came in the bottom of the sixth and Bennett went on to close out the game with 17 strikes as the Patriots would win game one by a final score of 8-1.
Game two’s start would almost mirror game one’s as Brewer jumped out to 3-1 lead after one inning but after a three run inning by Curry, the game would be tied 5-5 after six innings and eventually going into extra innings. At the ninth inning, Brewer’s bats would heat up as they would score eight runs and go on to win game two by a final score of 13-5 and complete to series sweep.
