Westminster Withstands Feisty Stockbridge For 54-22 Win
On Wednesday, the Westminster Wildcats wrestling team improved to 5-2 on the season after defeating the Stockbridge Tigers 54-22. Despite the score, the Tigers made the Wildcats work hard on the mat for the victory. The match-up started with the 120lb weight class with Westminster taking it with a 12-4 score. In the following 126lb weight class Stockbridge's Desmond Stephenson quickly turned things around for the Tigers scoring the 13-2 win. The 132lb class was up next and was the closest match-up of the night with Westminster up 7-5 in the match before the Wildcat wrestler scored a pin to steal the win. The Wildcats would go to win 4 of the next 5 weight classes including a forfeit by Stockbridge in the 138lb weight class and two pin victories by Rankin Thompson in the 160lb weight class and Alec Cann in the 170lb weight class.
Stockbridge would answer with a pin by Anton Plummer in the 182lb weight class but forfeits in 3 of the final four matches would keep the Tigers from any chance of getting the overall team victory over the Wildcats. Following the match, Westminster Head Coach Robert Hayes said the overall performance of his team was "pretty good," adding "we're still getting into mid-season form as we had some guys just getting out here from football. All in all it was a pretty good win for us, I'll take it." The Wildcats will host the Westminster Duals on Saturday, December 3.
