Westlake's Clayton Powell-Lee Commits To Georgia Tech

On Tuesday, Westlake safety, Clayton Powell-Lee announced his commitment to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, his father, Gary Lee’s alma mater. Powell-Lee made an unofficial visit to Tech back in early June and later visited the campus for a private workout with Tech safeties coach, Nathan Burton before receiving an offer from the Yellow Jackets about a week ago. The 6-foot-2, 170 pound Powell-Lee told the Atlanta Constitutional Journal that he did not expect to receive an offer immediately after being told that an offer may take a while as the team’s recruiting focus was on linemen.

“So I just waited it out and waited it out and fortunately I heard back,” Powell-Lee told the AJC. As for why he decided to commit to Georgia Tech, Powell-Lee reflected on how his father would take him to Yellow Jacket games as a kid and he “just fell in love with it.” Powell-Lee chose Tech over the likes of Kansas State and several other FBS programs. “I feel real good, just soaking in all the love. I’ve already been receiving texts from players at Georgia Tech. Just soaking in all the love and can’t wait to get up there,” Powell-Lee said.
