"Hunting" Dutchtown Defense Leads To 43-8 Win Over Jonesboro And 3-0 Start
On Friday, the Dutchtown Bulldogs football team hosted the Jonesboro Cardinals in a non-region match up as the Cardinals looked to bounce back from their 38-16 loss to Cartersville last week, while the Bulldogs looked to get off to a 3-0 start under new head coach, Niketa Battle.
The Bulldogs would go to work early in establishing their ground game on the opening drive and after a pass from Josiah Jarrett to Kaleb Jackson put the Bulldogs at a first and goal, the drive would result in a six yard touchdown run by running back, Jamal Bing, who would finish the night with three rushing trips to the end zone.
On the ensuing possession for the Cardinals, Dutchtown would force them into a punting situation and force a turnover, later capitalizing with na Amarion Yarbough touchdown run as the Bulldogs would go up 14-0. The Dutchtown defense continued their dominance throughout the night as the Cardinals struggled to put together any successful drives until late in the fourth quarter, when they rushed for their first touchdown.
However, that would be the only time the Bulldogs defense would allow Jonesboro to cross the goal line and after the game, Battle said “they hunt” as they ended the night with three interceptions and a safety. “One thing about it, we hit hard, we play fast and we’re going to be very disciplined on defense. They’re doing everything that we ask them to do,” Battle added.
Offensively, after jumping out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter, the Bulldogs stalled throughout the second period of action, something Battle noted. “We kind of got a little slow at the end of the first half, but they came back and finished the game,” to which they did with three more rushing scores in the second half including Yarbough’s second touchdown and Bing’s third.
