On Friday night, the Alexander Cougars hosted the Mays Raiders in a crucial region match up. The Raiders would come into the the night 8-1 overall and 7-0 in region play, while the Cougars would sit at 6-2 overall and 5-1 in region play. A win by the Cougars would put Alexander ahead of the Raiders in region standings.

Mays would get on the board first taking a 6-0 lead in the first quarter but the Cougars would answer back and take a 7-6 lead after Mason Wood would connect with Joel Phillips for a 40 yard touchdown pass. With time winding down in the opening quarter, the Raiders would regain the lead thanks to a Nick Hunter touchdown pass to Kendall Wimberly and the Raiders would go up 12-7 with 1:14 to go in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Cougars would once again regain the lead after Wood's pitch to Bryson Irby for the touchdown and Alexander would go up 14-12. But with 1:25 to go in the half, Hunter would lead the Raiders' charge and Mays would take a 20-17 lead into the locker room at half time. In the third quarter, Hunter would hit Terrance Morton for the second time of the night to give Mays a 27-17 lead just minutes into the third quarter.

Wood and the Cougars would answer back though as Wood would score on a quarterback keeper to make it a 27-24 game. But the Raiders offense would not be denied another score as Nelson would rush for a touchdown giving the Raiders a 34-24 lead with 4:54 to go in the game.

On the ensuing drive, Alexander would look to keep pace with Mays but Wood would be picked off by Montileco Edwards of the Raiders and that would seal the deal for Mays as they picked up the 34-24 win. Watch highlights of the game below.
